Here is what a 70-year-old woman who gave up sugar for 28 years looks like today
Carolyn Hartz stopped eating processed sugar almost 30 years ago after years of "addiction" to sweets. Today she has a bikini body and a bright complexion that many people decades younger than her would dream of having.
Carolyn believes that to get what you want you have to make the right decisions. She is also convinced that 50 years of age is not that much, to start making a positive change in your life.
"Many mature women think it is not possible to maintain a reasonable shape and weight when they reach 50 years old or more," the founder of SweetLife told the Daily Mail Australia. Mrs. Hartz, who is 70 years old, says that even though it can be a bit harder to stay in shape for women after 40, it can still be possible if you really want to work on it.
Carolyn Hartz continues by saying:
"We know that our metabolism slows down as we age and this only means we have to take control, make healthier choices and work a bit harder."
"I believe it is very important to be aware of the type of food you eat and the amount of food you eat. Being aware of the effects of what you eat is a huge step forward. Eating randomly, without using your brain, can lead to unnecessary weight gain."
She tells her clients:
"Tasting and enjoying every bite will help you slow down and you will be less likely to overeat. You have to work on attitude and diet."
She firmly believes that having a positive and playful outlook is a really important factor in aging like she has. The other factor she believes is one of the most important changes she has ever made is the absence of sugar.
"I have been without sugar for 28 years. At first it was hard because I was a sugar addict, but I believe it is one of the most important reasons why I have been able to stay healthy and keep my body shape. I make sure to eat protein at every meal, especially at breakfast. It stops the cravings."
Sleep is also fundamental: Mrs. Hartz tries to sleep at least eight hours every night. Meditation and gratitude are two thoughts that Mrs. Hartz attributes to her incredible health. She has followed the same skincare regimen since she was 17 years old. She has some useful beauty tips for women. She says:
"I never go to bed without cleansing my face from makeup and moisturizing every night, especially around the eyes and neck. I wear sunscreen every day under my makeup and I never bake in the sun. I am very aware of the harmful effects of the sun and I got this reminder when a tumor was removed from my nose at just 30 years old."
The most important advice Mrs. Hartz has for women is to never compare yourself to others because we are all unique.
"Be aware of what you like in others and let them inspire you, but we are all individuals and we all have our special traits. Be happy for the successes of your friends, have fun together with them. Never be jealous or resentful, both are wasted emotions and only hurt your well-being. Be happy for everyone and don't worry about your age."
For people in their 20s and 30s, Mrs. Hartz advises them to live life to the fullest.
"Don't listen to those who are negative, be yourself. Attitude is the most important resource. Life is not perfect, accept it and grab it with both hands."
